never before and never again
Bee McCormick
Bee McCormick
boy-girl or girl-boy?
girl adjacent, boy lite,
perfect androgyny.
afraid to be. afraid to change.
none gender with left femme,
brian molko on sale in the
dollar store david bowie with
blue hair.
ewan mcgregor in eyeliner.
glitter stuck in every pore-
too much for mammy to handle-
tsking and sighing and
distaste
curling on her lip.
each generation comes
pre-made with rebellion
built in. blood and smoke
and choking, vomiting up
the words our parents used to
stamp down. becoming
the saviour for a time.
and then we crash.
exhausted, hollow, the weight
of the world crushing my spine
before i'm even twenty.
tired.
weary.
boy-girl, girl-boy.
i just am. i can just be.
i can be bigger than the box
with the labels they stamp
on the side. the stickers
they use to refer to me,
that i use to call myself.
perfect androgyny. imperfect existence.
