Salomé
Bee McCormick
Bee McCormick
i like to play with fire.
not to watch the flames
dancing like Salomé
for the prophet's head,
not to feel the warmth
seeping into my bones
for the comfort it brings,
not to light the stick
that will ease my pain
for the time it's lit,
not to burn the house
doused in gasoline
for crawling from the wreckage.
Salomé dances across my skin,
her warmth spreads through my follicles.
my pain is tangible now and i-
i crawl out from the wreckage.
not to watch the flames
dancing like Salomé
for the prophet's head,
not to feel the warmth
seeping into my bones
for the comfort it brings,
not to light the stick
that will ease my pain
for the time it's lit,
not to burn the house
doused in gasoline
for crawling from the wreckage.
Salomé dances across my skin,
her warmth spreads through my follicles.
my pain is tangible now and i-
i crawl out from the wreckage.
