SERPENTINE

i am fifteen, and you are fifteen.
you spill our snacks on the carpet; i spill my theories for season 8
of the series we both love so. drunk on sleeplessness and sugar,
laughter flying serpentine around your blanketed lounge.
i am sixteen, and you are fifteen.
i spill through anchors to haul you back; you spill them over the side, untouched.
drunk on our first sip of rum, i must wind serpentine - as i always do -
back to that old series to hear your voice.
i am eighteen, and you are fifteen.
i spill through my ordered plans; you spill nothing of yours.
drunk, rewatching the first season of the series that still blankets you,
you cut a serpentine path around my determined footprints.
i am twenty, and you are fifteen.
i spill into laughter with friends you refuse to meet;
you spill your eighth drink on your bedsheets.
drunk in different cities, your dizzy fingers fall serpentine on your keyboard,
misspelling the new plot twist in a message i won’t read,
about a series i don’t watch anymore.
