the hunchback of notre-dame
Amelia Roselli
Amelia Roselli
There are girls beneath me
Playing soccer.
With a yelp and a lilt,
Polished heads whip a stinging arc;
Wild yet welcome placement of every part,
And throw misguided salutations at me.
Show-ponies to prance,
They bare their (collar) bones in this their hysteric dance
And they laugh
(are laughing)
At me
Up here in the bells of Notre-dame,
I am flesh and blood,
A poor player, acting out a crooked scene.
Pores and fluids and gasses.
I leak
And therefore am weak.
They yell into the light that they have a heart
And it beats too
But in their wild free dance that I can’t see through,
They are moving marble
And I am sweating at the Louvre.
So I shake in fear
And I stay up here in my lofty tower and my high vaulted place
A mental state built on cardboard boxes without tape.
Playing soccer.
With a yelp and a lilt,
Polished heads whip a stinging arc;
Wild yet welcome placement of every part,
And throw misguided salutations at me.
Show-ponies to prance,
They bare their (collar) bones in this their hysteric dance
And they laugh

And I am sweating at the Louvre.

A mental state built on cardboard boxes without tape.
